PREPARE YOUR ‘WRITTEN SIGNIFICATION'

A Written Signification is a letter to the Hong Kong Immigration Department to explain why you cannot safely go back to your home country and what has happened to make you at risk. Justice Centre may be able to assist you with a Written Signification.

  • Your full name.

    Your home country.

    Your passport number (if you have one) or Recognizance Document number (if you have one already).

    Address where you are staying in Hong Kong.

    Your mobile number, if you have one.

    Names and details of any family members you have in Hong Kong and how they are related to you.

    Detailed explanation of what happened in your home country and why you are afraid to go back to your home country.

  • You must sign the letter personally. You should also write the date.

    If you came to Hong Kong with your family, you can write one letter to ask for your whole family’s USM claims to be considered together. Everyone aged 18 years and over must sign the letter.

    Make a photocopy of the letter for your records.

  • This is an example of a Written Signification. You must write your own letter based on your own facts. You must include accurate information only.
