Refugee Leadership
At ASK, we believe that refugees should shape the systems and services that affect their lives.
We support and partner with Humanity Seekers, an initiative founded and led by refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong. We also run a community leadership programme for refugee youths, and collaborate with refugee paralegals to deliver community legal education.
Paralegals For Protection: Immigration Detention
We work in partnership with refugee paralegals to disseminate legal information and provide community legal support to refugee and asylum-seeking communities in Hong Kong.
In 2025, seven refugee women completed our Paralegal for Protection training, and were equipped with a working understanding of relevant legal frameworks, and the tools and skills they need to identify detention risks, understand legal protections, and support others in their communities.
The dedicated paralegals are now at the forefront of making legal help more accessible and responsive to the experiences and priorities of people seeking asylum in Hong Kong.
Community Leadership Academy
Our Community Leadership Academy is co-designed and co-delivered by refugees, in collaboration with Humanity Seekers. Through the Academy, refugees become empowered leaders, creating positive social impact – as a community, for the community.
In 2023 and 2024, 18 refugee youths completed the 10-week traineeship, learning law and policy, gaining confidence and skills to represent their communities and designing and executing initiatives for more inclusive Hong Kong.
