Asylum Services & Knowledge is a non-profit organisation that delivers legal and social services to refugees, asylum seekers and other displaced people in Hong Kong SAR. We work to support the vision of Hong Kong SAR as a welcoming and inclusive society.
We provide free specialist legal help to people experiencing forced displacement, while offering tailored welfare and psychosocial support to those affected by trauma and destitution. Purpose of position
The Communications Assistant is a part-time contract role for 10 hours a week at the hourly rate of HK$120, reporting to the Director of External Relations.
Key responsibilities
Work closely with Director of External Relations to implement effective donor communications strategies with a focus on continuous unrestricted funding; sustain and grow the number of regular donors, the size of individual donations, and convert one-off donors to regular donors and regular donors to major donors;
Design and deliver visually compelling outputs for engagement with targeted audiences;
Design, update and follow up on our social media posts regularly;
Work with the Director of External Relations to contribute to fundraising campaigns;
Work with the Director of External Relations to assist with school and donor engagements and events; be responsible for engaging and coordinating sponsors, and managing event logistics, such as arranging the venue, effectively responding to social distancing guidelines, organising equipment set up and catering, and monitoring invitations, RSVPs and attendance, etc;
Develop, plan, and manage donor cultivation and fundraising events, monthly giving programmes, direct mailings, etc;
Participate in organisation-wide initiatives, such as events, planning days, work-planning;
Perform other duties as assigned by Director of External Relations as required.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Essential
Degree in, or currently studying Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or an equivalent relevant field, or relevant industry experience;
Strong English and Cantonese verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues in an appealing and concise way to different audiences;
Project management skills and attention to detail;
Flexibility, ability to multi-task, prioritise and work under pressure;
Interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team;
Multicultural sensitivity and ability to work with people from different cultural backgrounds and across varying language barriers;
Permission to work in Hong Kong.
Desirable
Previous experience in the area of non-profit work or communications;
Demonstrated knowledge of current and relevant fundraising techniques, industry best practices and standard operating procedures for fund development and donor relations;
Demonstrated communications skills in digital, media, branding and marketing skills;
Demonstrated technical experience in graphic design, infographics, website management, social media platforms, and email distribution software;
Understanding of issues facing refugees, victims of human trafficking and other forced migrants in Hong Kong;
Previous experience working with vulnerable groups.

This is a 1-year contract position for 10 hours a week at the hourly rate of HK$120. We offer flexible working hours and the option to work remotely, with the weekly work schedule to be negotiated with the manager. Current university students are welcome to apply for this role, with weekly commitment after the summer break to be negotiated.
